“THE STORIES WITHIN”
WHO WE ARE
We are INNER PICTURES. Our production company was founded by a pair of young queer filmmakers frustrated by the lack of diversity in film and television.
From spine-tingling horror films to gritty coming-of-age dramas, we tell genre stories with a socially-conscious edge. We believe that entertainment and social justice go hand in hand.
We support diverse communities to tell their stories, including them in every stage of production. Our stories are driven by diverse creative teams and authentic casting. We value collaboration over consultation.
We search for unique and innovative ways for audiences in Australia, and around the world, to access our content. We’re also committed to making our content accessible to all, through captioning and audio description.
From feature films to web-series, short films to social media, we let audiences step into the inner worlds of people and communities rarely seen on our screens.
We reveal the stories within...
OUR STORY
Ever since meeting on their first day at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), co-founders Kylie and Oliver have been drawn together by a shared passion for bringing diverse Australian stories to life.
Kylie is just your average transgender, lesbian, asexual writer-director with a raw, uncompromising style of filmmaking. Oliver is the innovative, proudly nonbinary and queer creative producer with a passion for supporting diverse, emerging talent. Together they are INNER PICTURES.
Initially, they teamed up with award-winning author Fiona Wright on FAREWELL HAPPY FIELDS: an intimate, unconventional portrait of anorexia and depression. They then went onto produce SEE FOR YOURSELF: a visceral psychological thriller told in English and Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and featuring a breakthrough performance from Deaf actor Bronek Lemów.
They recently completed the queer romance ASEXY - featured in Star Observer, Film Ink and ABC Queer - and are in pre-production of a trans horror short THE DYSPHORIA. They are also in development of their first feature DEADNAME: a supernatural horror which was accelerated in Australians in Film (AiF) UNTAPPED Lab and supported by Screen Australia.
The Inner Pictures team lives, works and creates on the stolen lands of the Garigal (Caregal) people of the Eora Nation and the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation.
We acknowledge these traditional owners, and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Sovereignty was never ceded.
